NARROWING DOWN THE TOPICS

Okay..... i need to narrow down possible theories about the Mayan decline. I think i will talk about these ones;

* enviromental factors- drought/ climate change
* civil war / peasant revolt
* foreign attack
* economic collapse

More Info

lol...
Wednesday 4th August (about 30-45 minutes of researching)

Think i've just about got my essay question sorted out; how about-

"Assess theories in relation to the decline of the Maya civilisation"

found some really good books from the library;

* Patricia D. Netzley 2002, Maya Civilisation, Lucent Books San Diego, California.

* Michael D. Coe 1999, The Maya, 6th edn. Thames and Hudson Ltd, London.

also thought up a rough plan;

intro

possible theories;

foreign attackers - evidence / judgement

enviro factors (ie; earthquake/ drought..) - " " " "

disease- " " " "

over farming (soil degradation/erosion leading to starvation etc) - " " " "

civil war/ peasant revolt- " " " "

economic collapse-" " " "

(might throw in ET as well : ) )

conclusion- a variety of dif. factors brought about the demise of the Maya culture etc..

NEW IDEA!

I have now decided to do my essay on the Mayans. I was thinking of doing an investigation about their daily lives, like what religion they followed, what they ate, and the social-structure of their community. But, i've slightly altered the topic, to focus on the issue of "What happened to the Mayans?" How did they just disappear? I will look at possible theories relating to this, and maybe make my own conclusions.

i've already found some theories;

* famine

*self-exile (they knew about the Europeans coming)

*civil war

*extraterrestrial intervention (don't think i'll mention this one)

Post 2:

I am interested in the achievements of Zenobia, the "warrior queen", so i think i'll do my essay on her. She seems like an interesting person. I did, first look at Caesar's invasion of Britian, but it looked like there was TONNES of information about that. So, i do Zenobia..yep.

Iv'e already found some good sites about her too;

http://womenshistory.about.com/library/bio/ucbio_zenobia.htm
http://www.roman-colosseum.info/roman-emperors/zenobia.htm - a site dedicated to her
http://travdyn.wordpress.com/2008/06/04/ancient-palmyra-and-the-grand-yet-lamentable-history-of-queen-zenobia/ - good quotes
http://www.allempires.com/article/index.php?q=zenobia

My question might be;

"Describe the achievements of Zenobia, the 'warrior queen' in relation to her role in the war against Rome."
would that work?

Ancient History Essay Post 1

Post 1:

I haven't decided what i will write my history essay on yet. I'll do a web search of different Ancient History topics/ people to work out what i want to write about. I think i'd prefer to do it about a person, rather than a specific site or historical event. I'm going to start looking now.
